There Are Feral Hogs in San Francisco County?

I would have thought that the City & County of San Francisco would be feral hog free, if anyplace were feral hog free...

Anyone got a recipe for feral hogs? | CorrenteWire : Frazier has a labored explanation for why California, in which 57 of 58 counties have feral hogs, still votes Democratic. I'd like to think that, as so often, California is just ahead of the rest of the country...

Thanks for the link--but/and could you fix the %20's in the quote? Many thinks!

Incidentally, the feral hogs post does have a serious, though well hidden, point:

Food counts: If we want to live less corporatist lives, choosing to eat good food is one way to do that. That's why Corrente has a recipes section.

Coe Park trapped over 700 of the wild kind, but, because of the rules they have to be put in landfill. Only meat killed and prepared in a licenced slaughter house can be used. Except for hunters who do the job for themselves.
Wild hogs in SF county would be an interesting thing to behold. Maybe Golden Gate Park is large enough to hold a herd.

Advice from my state's hunting regulations:

"Do not approach feral hogs unless you have a semi-automatic rifle of .300 caliber or higher with at least a 7 round magazine. Use of a tree stand is recommended."

It goes on to tell you that it is legal to take feral hogs 365-1/4 days per year using any weapon (including machine guns) and any method (including from vehicles) - the only such exception in the regs.

So, I wouldn't go looking for them, myself.

Cranky

I read that New Yorker article over the weekend, and thought, "If you ever needed proof that correlation doesn't necessarily mean causation, you have it here." My next thought was to wonder what the Freakonomics guys would make of it.

Even stranger: feral wild boar in Hong Kong.
.

Late one friday night when I was in high school, I saw one close up in GG park. Afterwards, I went looking for them with a camera, but I never managed to get a photograph, although I heard their grunting on several occasioins. They come out after dusk and hang out around swampy areas. It was really incredible, and thus no one believed me at the time. Where can I get this documentation that says that there really are feral hogs in SF county?

i.e. Thus proving that it wasn't just the drugs I was on at the time.

Wait a freakin' minute: if the very urban City and County of San Francisco has feral hogs, then what's the sole county in California that doesn't have them? And why?

Calton asked:
"Wait a freakin' minute: if the very urban City and County of San Francisco has feral hogs, then what's the sole county in California that doesn't have them? And why?"

San Diego County.

Because we don't call them feral hogs here. Any wiley critter that leaves a trail of destruction while gobbling up whatever its appetite fancies holds a title like Honorable Representative, Commissioner, Council Member, CEO, etc.
