Smoking Gun on Bill O'Reilly

Smoking Gun on Bill O'Reilly.

This is old news. I presume the whole thing was settled out of court, for lots of money, since as far as I know it never went to court and it all just, sorta disappeared and faded away. O'Reilly does serve a good purpose: when you meet someone who likes his program you know you are in the company of an utter scumbag and fool. Valuable marker.

"Valuable marker"

Absolutely. As soon as I hear 'pinhead' I assume I'm in the presence of a semi-literate troglodyte who gets their opinions from O'Reilly factor and their news from Fox and NewsMax

PS: The lawsuits (multiple) were all settled out of court AFAIK. Guesstimates I saw figured it cost O'Reilly and News Corp somewhere between 2 and 10 million $'s not including legal fees but, as usual, there was a nondisclosure agreement so no one other than the parties involved knows for sure.

Why is this coming up again?

I'm sorry, but I cannot agree. The wingnuts and troglodytes which are found across so much of middle america have at least partly been turned into such by people like Bill O'Reilly. This is not to say that wingnuts would not exist without the likes of Fox News, but rather that their numbers would be substantially smaller and less likely to influence the Republican party (and yes, I would rather see a Wall Street/Gilded Age-dominated Republican Party than one which is dominated by militarist wingnut theocracy).

So imo any news items that can be used to permanently discredit Bill O'Reilly specifically and Fox News in general are all to the good. O'Reilly's subjection to a sexual harassment suit (and more importantly, his vicious verbal reaction against that lawsuit) might be old news, but it's worth making sure that as many people as possible know about it.

Don't forget Ludacris's take on this:

Respected highly, Hi Mr. O'Reilly.
Hope all is well, kiss the plaintiff and the wifey.

I find it difficult to believe that O'R by himself has had that much to do with turning the wingnuts into what they are. There are other commentators they could listen to, but they choose to listen to O'R. He is not obviously eloquent or smart; what he is is nasty and in your face. I think that is what attracts the wingnuts; they like to see someone as stupid as they but more aggressive and verbal spout the feelings they can't. He, as it were, gives their feelings voice, but he doesn't create those feelings.

Thanks for bringing this up again, now with the sordid details that certainly escaped me when it was in the news. I thought O'Reilly a gangster, but didn't realize quite how low-class a gangster he is.
