Impeach George W. Bush. Impeach Him Now

Matthew Yglesias reports:

Matthew Yglesias: Another classic "me or your lying eyes" moment as George W. Bush decides to contradicts Afghan President Hamid Karzai on the question of Iran's role in Afghanistan. Karzai, who only lives in Afghanistan and runs its government, calls Iran "a helper." Bush, though, says he's got it wrong.

Well...It would be helpful to get good third-party scoop (would Juan Cole know?) about what Iran really is up to in that region.
Let me know if you have any leads, tx.

Well, you see, God tells Bush the truth, but doesn't tell Karzai who worships a false God.

Bush's statements to the press always leave one in the dark as to whether mendacity or stupidity is coming out of his mouth.

Stupidity? Has no one informed him that the last thing the Shia government of Iran wants to see is the rabidly Sunni Taliban back in power in Afghanistan? Or has he just forgotten or never really understood the Shia/Sunni divide?

Mendacity? Has Cheney told him that he needs to keep maximum pressure on Iran, possibly as a prelude to bombing the place back into the stone age or to keep the wingnuts hyped up against a foreign enemy?

Take your pick.

When the Taliban were in charge in Afghanistan, about one million Afghanis took refuge in Iran (about the same amount took refuge in Pakistan). When the Taliban was deposed, the refugees were able to return to their homes. In Afghanistan, the Iranians, unlike the NATO allies, actually listen to what the locals want, and help rebuild it. The Iranians also refrain from crushing shoppers under their armored vehicles, and refrain from military attacks on wedding parties.

>Or has he just forgotten or never really understood the Shia/Sunni divide?
bush doesn't care. Iran is on the shitlist today, and everything they do must be filtered through that political filter. bush's allegiance in that region is to the rabidly sunni leadership of Saudi: the people who gave us AlNeda, OBL and 911.

This is very good as a general critique of US foreign/imperial policy:
