Is This for Real?

This must be a parody:

RE: Obama Must-Wins

The media has anointed Barack Obama the presumptive nominee and he's playing the part. With an eleven state winning streak coming out of February, Senator Obama is riding a surge of momentum that has enabled him to pour unprecedented resources into Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont.

The Obama campaign and its allies are outspending us two to one in paid media and have sent more staff into the March 4 states.  In fact, when all is totaled, Senator Obama and his allies have outspent Senator Clinton by a margin of $18.4 million to $9.2 million on advertising in the four states that are voting next Tuesday. Senator Obama has campaigned hard in these states.  He has spent time meeting editorial boards, courting endorsers, holding rallies, and - of course - making speeches.

If he cannot win all of these states with all this effort, there's a problem.

Should Senator Obama fail to score decisive victories with all of the resources and effort he is bringing to bear, the message will be clear: Democrats, the majority of whom have favored Hillary in the primary contests held to date, have their doubts about Senator Obama and are having second thoughts about him as a prospective standard-bearer.

It is a funny memo. Arguing that since Obama has been campaigning more actively that expectations should be higher for him.

Just like for Clinton and her campaigns for Florida and Wisconsin.

She's old and tired, she won't be able to wake up for that 3am phone call.

Where would Hillary be if it weren't for all of those early absentee ballots in those early primary states?
Sitting at home already would be my guess. She's done, and especially if she loses Texas as it looks like will happen.
Her campaign has literally fallen apart and now she's just playing the victim card. Time to fold, Hillary.

Actually, Clinton has run a fine campaign only Obama has run a superb one. The candidates have generated an immense amount of excitement and drawn voters to issues more thoroughly than in all but a few elections I have read about. We are fortunate in both candidates, and by pushing Obama, Clinton has done him an important preparatory service.

The Obama campaign speaks so well for future needs.

Because of Clinton, I am more sure than ever of how thoughtful Obama is and that gives me increasing confidence.

Well, yes it's real. It came from the Clinton campaign. And yes, it's a parody. Of all the breathless stories that have been written saying that Clinton has to win Texas and Ohio. I thought it quite good. But others seem not to have detected the irony.

It is, however, a bad sign for the Clinton campaign. Irony is often the result of bitterness.

I don't fault the Clinton campaign for trying to lower expectations--that's their job--but they should realize that spin works best when it is based in reality. Their best argument would be that she has a better chance of winning swing states such as Florida, Penn., and Ohio in the general election, an argument the polls somewhat support. It's a bad sign they are making ridiculous arguments instead.
