No way that one cup of cooked oats is 607 calories. No way.
Woops. I just looked elsewhere. Way. Serving size of 100 grams is 389 calories, and your link shows 156 grams, so I guess so. Well, it's ultra high carb, but oats do have 26 grams of protein in that 156 g. serving. Not bad. Add milk and you should be tanked up for the morning.
When I was in my early thirties I cooked tofu cubes in my oatmeal and ate with soy milk. Didn't get hungry again until lunchtime. Never got that mid morning slump, either.
PS - one of the sons had a bad fever with an episode of vomiting. He wouldn't drink enough liquids, and history has shown that Gatorade makes him upchuck more. I was worrying about getting enough potassium in him. At the end of two days of fever, he got up at suppertime, requested oatmeal, ate a large bowl with raisins and milk, asked for seconds, then went to bed. I read labels and discovered that the Gatorade serving would have given him 50 mgs of potassium (he needs 1000 in a day at least) while the single serving of oatmeal with milk and raisins gave him something like 750 mgs potassium.
So when you're dehydrated, skip the Gatorade and eat your oatmeal.
