Exercycle "Lo, There I See My Father" Blogging
Lo, there I see my father,
Lo, there I see my mother
And my sisters and my brothers.
Lo, there I see the line of my ancestors
Back to the beginning,
Lo, they do call to me
They bid me take my place among them
In the halls of Valhalla
Where the brave may live forever...
Benefits to watching the last forty minutes of The Thirteenth Warrior on the iPhone while riding the exercise bike:
- The chance that I will stop pedaling before the full forty minutes are up is infinitesimal...
- It calls forth a degree of muscular exertion that I had thought lost long ago...
Still the best Beowulf.
Have you ever seen Benjamin Bagby perform Beowulf, complete with Anglo Saxon harp? Buy the DVD.

As much as I love watching it, I am bothered by the disappearing subplots. There is the subplot about the king's son and his jealousy of Bulvai. And there is the love interest subplot, too. They disappear in the last 40 minutes. I think we know what happened, but it seems odd.
Of course, if you watch just the last 40 mins, that isn't an issue.

I enthused about Bagby's amazing impersonation of the Beowulf bard the last time the poem came up here. It's still the true best Beowulf, though perhaps not the best suited for viewing on the exercise bike.
Myself, I read the New York Review of Books on the StairMaster(tm).
