"Courses that you wanted to take for your concentration are suddenly canceled, or you are excluded from them, or another opportunity opens that you find irresistible but that conflicts with your concentration courses. We will be flexible--we don't require that you fulfill the concentration you sign up to do, but only that when you receive your degree you can look back and say to yourself: "Wow, I really do know a lot about"

Kudos First, on the intellectual vibrancy of the major, and second, on not imposing "airline-rules" on students when courses are not available. I am shocked at the number of faculty -- in BA and MA programs -- that essentially tell students, "Yeah, that course got canceled and the two required courses conflict, but that's not our problem, that's your problem."

* Airline-rules: "If you are late and miss your flight, it's your fault. If we are late and your miss your connecting flight, it's your fault."
