Yes, Bush and McCain camps alike are franticly reinterpreting, redirecting, reconstruing and spinning (see links at http://tinyurl.com/5qdc6c for e.g.) but in the end Maliki said what he said and it was his own interpreter who translated it for Der Spiegel: Obama's 16 months is the 'horizon' the Iraqi government prefers.

Obama has not only neutralized the foreign policy experience question he has put both Bush and McCain firmly on the wrong side of it.

If there was any doubt that the election was Obama's to lose it is settled now; McCain can do nothing now but prod during his faux town hall meetings ...and hope (/irony).

A more interesting question is what game General Petreus thinks he is playing by meddling in this: What business does CENTCOM have posting an interpretation of what Maliki _really_ meant? Perhaps Petreus believes he can improve on McArthur, hmmmm?

It is odd that his spokesman claims he was mistranslated and misinterpreted, since Prime Minister al-Malaki comes out of the interview looking very good. As understood and translated he seems highly intelligent eloquent and reasonable. Can you imagine our President reasoning and expressing himself so well ? I can't imagine the prime minister under whose government I live (Silvio Berlusconi) simulating a reasonable person who respects the rule of law for so long (hell I can't imagine him speaking without cringing).

I think back when Iraq introduced a flat tax of 15% some organ like NRO said Americans might someday feel a twinge of envy for Iraqis. They were right, but not in the way they imagine. Now it was just a twinge. I know that al-Malaki is a ruthless Islamic extremist who is only prevented from becoming a dictator by his lack of a personal army. But I swear the thought "ah if only Bush were that intelligent and apparently reasonable" crossed my mind.

Humiliating.

At this point you would write "Impeach George Bush" but it is a bit late for that. However, Cromwell did get scott free by dying in office. He was disinterred and hanged. Can Bush pardon himself ? Has he considered taking a vacation in sunny Spain ? I understand he believes that he speaks Spanish. I'm sure Baltazar Garzon would be glad to give him review lessons.

I don't think you people realize how dishonest the press corps is.

When I picked up the Orlando Sentinel Saturday, they reported that this was a big blow to the Obama campaign, because it undercut his main foreign policy issue.

They reported this same news item as a boost to the McCain Campaign because his disagreement with the Iraqi leader highlighted his extensive foreign policy experience.

I didn't even read the rest of the comments because the animal control officers took me down with a tranquilizer dart.

The blow to the Obama campaign for me, is Obama's support for an indefinite and expanded war in Afghanistan. I could not be more unhappy with such a candidate.
