New York Times Death Spiral (Misogyny Watch Edition)

Adam Nagourney and Megan Thee spin their poll to try to convince us that whites do not like Michelle Obama:

Poll Finds Obama Isn’t Closing Divide on Race: There was even racial dissension over Mr. Obama’s wife, Michelle: She was viewed favorably by 58 percent of black voters, compared with 24 percent of white voters...

Here is what the poll says:

http://graphics8.nytimes.com/packages/pdf/politics/20080716_POLL.pdf

Doesn't the fact that 56% of whites surveyed either refused to answer this question, said that they were undecided, or said that they did not know enough worthy of inclusion?

And whence comes the word "dissension" anyway?

John McCain's wife, Cindy McCain, is not mentioned in the story at all. According to the poll, she is viewed favorably by 9% of Blacks, and 20% of whites. Isn't that worth mentioning?

Why oh why can't we have a better press corps?

"Why oh why can't we have a better press corps?" Well in this case the answer is obvious and answers itself. A better press corp would not have had a story and would have had to do some work and it would have made them late to their important cocktail parties.

And good luck trying to get them to change as long as they have cocktail parties, big tv salaries, and fame as rewards for crappy, lazy jobs.

Upton Sinclair: It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it. (Sort of like trying to get a tenured economist to understand the brain corruption effects of tenure....)

I don't understand though, why you labeled this "misogyny" watch. It's not clear that misogyny has anything to do with this -- maybe you could explain that?

The point here is that Michele is less popular than Barack so the Rethugs think she needs to be made an issue.

The media, of course, runs with it as if she is the one running for President.

Many white liberals derive a sense of superiority from believing that most other whites are racist. The Times frequently panders to this group and indeed, that's the whole point of the article, even to the point of distorting their own poll. A headline reading "Whites View Obama's Wife More Favorably Than McCain's" wouldn't serve that interest.

I've just gone through about half a dozen "Why oh Why" posts here. The idiocy and the lies are intentional. The fact that we see through them is pretty much irrelevant to those authors, because we aren't their target audience. As far as they're concerned, we're just annoying gnats to brush off, when we complain about the idiocy of their writings.

If Congress began considering the impeachment of Bush and Cheney -- holding hearings and such -- there would be a chance that the dirty underside of media control might actually be aired and exposed.
