spencer is too optimistic here: mccain will declare victory thanks to "his" surge and he will go unchallenged (and unlaughed at) on his declaration.

and, of course, the war ain't over until it's over (i'm sure ackerman has studied the vietnam war, which, after all, took only a mere 6 years from political consensus in america to end to actually end).

but otherwise a very incisive take.

btw, i just saw the mccain campaign statement on maliki's statement, and just as i guessed at 10:40 a.m., the mccain statement was all about the awesomeness of the surge.

so far, i haven't heard anyone laughing....
