Washington Post Death Spiral Watch

From Publius of Obsidian Wings:

Obsidian Wings: Noted Without Further Comment: The insufferable Michael Gerson:

But it is hard to avoid the feeling that Obama has gained the nomination without fully earning it. Unlike Clinton or Bush, his intellectual contributions have been slight.

George W. Bush - a regular Horatio Alger story. A Hegelian hero.

It's hard, reading the Post these days, to believe that they are even trying to be a newspaper. They aren't even going through the motions anymore.

Why oh why can't we have a better press corps?

I think this more correctly reads as: unlike Bush, he has had some slight intellectual contributions.

If you think this commentary by Gerson is bad, then check out the report in today's WaPo on "Obama Got Discount on Home Loan". The scoop supposedly comes from revealing the scandalous fact that the mortgage interest-rate on the Obamas' loan was "below average", which simply means that the author does not understand (a) the meaning of the concept of an average, (b) how banks actually assess credit-worthiness.
