Macs are Intel now. We have always been at war with Eastasia.

"six Macintosh[s] and no competitors"

That describes the Econ side of our lab, which is why (except for printing) I can generally be found on the PoliSci side, where the machines were installed consistently and properly.

Wait, you can get a laptop from someone BESIDES Apple?

It'll be interesting to see what effect the downturn has on sales of Apple's luxury-priced laptops. I don't think it will have much effect on academics, but for people spending money out of their own pockets and/or lacking the job-security of tenure, $1300-$2500 for a laptop may start looking just a bit silly.

I cannot believe that people still base the price of a computer solely on the initial cost. PC's cost as much as Mac's if you consider what is included with a Mac and the need for additional security software on PC's. Apple has acknowledged that there is a need for lower price point, so there is now a $1000 MacBook. I don't sell these things, but I advise businesses on their computer purchases. I see how much money businesses have to spend to support PC's, which is much higher than Macs.

What, no Linux machines!?
Happy Linux user since 1994.

outsourced to Kinko's

As I sit on my porcelain throne,
MacBook balanced on my knees,
I want to throw PC users a bone
I just went on a Dell spree.

Two cheap boxes for the young'uns,
A samba server for backup,
A dual boot laptop for the old'un;
No, I don't have a blade rack up.

I spanked Vista long and hard
To make the laptop boot Ubuntu
And cursed the stupid wintards
Who thought up Vista.

"Wait, you can get a laptop from someone BESIDES Apple?"

Yes, but only about 98% of computer users take this option

wintel is a moniker for windows/intel. For those in the know (not prominent economists obviously) Apple has been using only intel chips for some time now which coincidentally means they all can easily run windows which any of those six might have been making them exactly the systems you claimed they were not. Therefore saying there are a lack of wintel systems is more than a misnomer but a lack of technology jargon and knowledge.

"Apple has been using only intel chips for some time now which coincidentally means they all can easily run windows"

I didn`t know about that. Thanks
