The Eighteen-Year-Old is going to college next year, which means that I need to think about making more money. (The idea that one might write checks to rather than receive checks from universities is now strange to me.) So I have signed up with the Leigh Speakers' Bureau which also handles, among many others: Chris Anderson; Suzanne Berger; Michael Boskin; Kenneth Courtis; Clive Crook; Bill Emmott; Robert H. Frank; William Goetzmann; Douglas J. Holtz-Eakin; Paul Krugman; Bill McKibben; Paul Romer; Jeffrey Sachs; Robert Shiller;James Surowiecki; Martin Wolf; Adrian Wooldridge.

Obama will win but pretty damn close to 50% of the popular vote will be for McCain. That sad reality ALSO reflects the "real" America. It also strongly limits the decent things Obama can do.

Obama now has 52% of the vote, that's a Mandate these days. And his coat tails were long. He'll be able to pull some weight around.
The Impeach Obama websites are already up and trying to create their hate.
He better have LOTS of Secret Service around him now.

Steven Berlin Johnson on this, from July 4, 2003 -
"When some of our politicians make passing references to the "real America," what they're usually saying is that real America is everything that's not in our big cities. But if we're looking for a true site of American exceptionalism, something we've figured out how to do better than any other civilization on earth, today in Prospect Park wouldn't be a bad place to start."
