Cato Institute Helpfully Makes Its Fake Climate Report Look Like Actual Government Climate Report, Except Fake: Remember a few months ago when hilariously titled fake ripoffs of bestsellers were all over Amazon’s e-book store — 35 Shades of Grey, or I am the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, that sort of thing? The playful jokesters of the Cato Institute are using their Koch Industries Megabux to top that! They will soon release a delightful “spoof” of a 2009 US Government report on climate change, except that where the real report looks at real science, the fake “Addendum” contains the reassuring news that climate change is no big deal, hooray!
This is certainly a preliminary signs that the Cato Institute will not repeat not maintain its intellectual integrity under Koch rule.
Responding to the posting online and expected public release by the Cato Institute of a misleadingly designed 'counterfeit' report on climate change impacts in the U.S., 11 co-authors of the original peer-reviewed scientific assessment, Global Climate Change Impacts in the United States, today issued a statement that begins:
We, Donald Boesch, Lynne Carter, Nancy Grimm, Katherine Hayhoe, James McCarthy, Jonathan Overpeck, Benjamin Santer, John Stone, Gerry Schwartz, Bradley Udall, and Donald Wuebbles, are members of the Federal Advisory Committee that wrote the 2009 report Global Climate Change Impacts in the United States. As authors of that report, we are dismayed that the report of the Cato Institute, ADDENDUM: Global Climate Change Impacts in the United States, expropriates the title and style of our report in such a deceptive and misleading way. The Cato report is in no way an addendum to our 2009 report. It is not an update, explanation, or supplement by the authors of the original report. Rather, it is a completely separate document lacking rigorous scientific analysis and review…
This is not the way to play the game if you want to look at yourselves in the mirror, guys…
