Intellectual Panoply for the Eighteen-Year-Old

Intellectual Panoply for the Eighteen-Year-Old

The eighteen-year-old is off to Reed College in the fall.

His uncle wants to buy him subscriptions Gor his birthday: an intellectual panoply to arrive at his dorm proper for somebody who has the the potential to acquit himself very well should fate and luck--whether good or evil i cannot say--give the opportunity to fill the shoes of George F. Kennan or even Dean G. Acheson.

I suggested four periodicals:

  • The Financial Times
  • The Economist
  • The New York Review of Books
  • The American Prospect

Are these the right four to commission from the forge of Hephaestion?

tempestuous seasons they say only that when the storm is long-past the
sea will be flat again"
