RE: Mankiw's comment. Wouldn't savings respond to higher interest rates, the inevitable consequence if China stopped purchasing $200bil/year of U.S. assets or re-valued its currency? Or does Mankiw think savings/consumption decisions don't follow the laws of supply and demand?
